The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has called on the federal government to review or abandon its macro-economic policies, which they say have inflicted hardship on Nigerians.
The governors made this demand at their first meeting of 2025, held at the Government House in Asaba, Delta State, on Friday, January 31.
In a communiqué released after the meeting, and read by the Chairman of the forum and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, the forum expressed deep concerns over the country’s economic difficulties and blamed them on the federal government’s policies.
The PDP governors declared that the policies of the Tinubu administration have worsened inflation, weakened the naira, and made life unbearable for Nigerians.
“No meaningful or impactful achievements can be made in the states until these harsh policies are addressed,” the forum said.
The governors urged the federal government to rethink its approach, particularly in stabilizing the exchange rate, controlling inflation, and supporting small businesses that have been severely affected by the economic downturn.
While noting the significant socio-economic, security, and infrastructural challenges confronting the country in the past year, the forum commended PDP governors for implementing policies that have helped to ease the suffering of the people, while laying a foundation for sustainable development.

On security, the forum acknowledged the efforts of the nation’s armed forces and security agencies in maintaining law and order.
It however, raised concerns over the resurgence of non-state actors and violent criminal activities in different parts of the country.
“While we commend the gallant efforts of our security forces, we are deeply worried about the growing threat posed by bandits and other criminal elements,” the forum said, and called for a stronger security strategy to effectively combat these challenges.
The meeting also discussed internal party matters, particularly the position of the national secretary in the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC).
The forum expressed support for the existing court judgment on the matter and urged the NWC to begin its implementation.
“We reaffirm our commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that the decisions of the courts are respected,” the forum stated.
The governors also advised the NWC to reschedule the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting to March 13, 2025, to comply with legal and procedural requirements.
They expressed appreciation to the host Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, and the people of Delta State for their hospitality and the smooth organization of the meeting.
The forum also commended the Delta State Government for its achievements in infrastructural development, environmental management, and empowerment of citizens of the state.
The PDP governor’s further called on Nigerians not to lose hope despite the current economic and security challenges.
“We want to assure Nigerians that the PDP remains committed to restoring our country to the glorious days of manageable cost of living, security of lives and property, and national prosperity,” the communiqué stated.
The governors also reaffirmed their dedication to good governance and their resolve to return the country to what they described as “a period of stability and progress.”

![Ronaldo's future with Al-Nassr In limbo By Paul Joseph Cristiano Ronaldo's position at Al-Nassr is unclear after he was left out of the squad for their Saudi Pro League match against Al-Riyadh on Monday. Reports indicate that the 40-year-old is reluctant to play due to dissatisfaction with the club's management by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF). Both Al-Nassr and Al-Hilal, the country's most successful club with 19 league titles, are managed by the PIF, which also backs Newcastle United. Ronaldo joined Al-Nassr in 2022 after leaving Manchester United mid-season, making him the highest-paid player in football history with an annual salary of £177 million. However, during his time there, he has only won the Arab Club Champions Cup. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner signed a new two-year contract in June 2025. Before agreeing to the new contract, there were rumors about a possible exit from Al-Nassr, including a loan move to rivals Al-Hilal. The Arab Club Champions Cup is the only trophy Ronaldo has won with Al-Nassr. Since joining Al-Nassr, Ronaldo has been a prolific scorer, netting 14 goals in the 2022-23 Saudi Pro League after joining mid-season. He has been the league's top scorer for the past two seasons, with 35 and 25 goals, respectively. After being named the Best Middle East Player at the Globe Soccer Awards in December, Ronaldo stated: "You know what my goal is. I want to win trophies and I want to reach that number [1,000 goals] that you all know. I will definitely reach that number, assuming I stay injury-free." He scored his 17th goal of the season against Al-Kholood on Friday, bringing his career total to 961 goals—39 shy of his target. Al-Nassr finished as league runners-up in his first two seasons and came in third last season, trailing champions Al-Ittihad by 13 points. They also lost in the final of the King's Cup in the 2023-24 season to Al-Hilal on penalties. In the previous season, Al-Nassr was eliminated from the Asian Champions League Elite semi-finals by Japan's Kawasaki Frontale and only qualified for the second-tier Asian Champions League Two this season. Meanwhile, their domestic rivals Al-Ahli became Asian champions last year, featuring players like Riyad Mahrez, Roberto Firmino, and Ivan Toney. The only trophy Ronaldo has secured with the club remains the Arab Club Champions Cup in 2023. Sen.
