Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has unveiled plans to harness investment opportunities with significant potential for generating employment and creating wealth in the state.
The governor made this announcement during a courtesy visit from the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Nigeria, Ms. Elsie Attafuah.
He revealed that the state government aims to capitalize on Yobe’s vast agricultural, livestock and natural resources to foster international trade and attract investments.
“In the past, our focus was on rehabilitation and recovery efforts to resettle communities displaced by insurgency. With the improved security situation, we are now turning our attention inward to explore and develop the state’s investment potential,” he said.
Gov. Buni emphasized Yobe’s status as a leading producer of sesame seeds and livestock, noting that efforts are underway to establish the state as an international hub for the export of these products.

He acknowledged the financial strain of the government’s reconstruction and resettlement programmes but highlighted the provision of infrastructure as a key strategy to stimulate economic growth and reduce rural-urban migration.
“As one of the states most affected by insurgency, Yobe previously. However, with our now fully operational airport, development partners can easily reach the state and expand their impact,” Gov. Buni noted.
While commending Gov. Buni’s administration for its commitment to resettling displaced communities and improving security in the region, Ms. Elsie Attafuah, expressed the UNDP’s readiness to collaborate with the state government in areas of development, particularly in investment promotion.
