The Yobe State Hisbah Board has taken steps in enforcing the state’s alcohol prohibition laws by destroying over 170 bottles of alcoholic beverages valued at N450,000. The operation occurred in Gashua, Bade Local Government Area, following a raid led by Hisbah officials at a local hotel.
During the raid, a vendor accused of selling the confiscated alcohol was arrested and subsequently sentenced to prison for violating the state’s prohibition laws. The sentence was handed down by a Sharia Court in Yobe, which also ordered the destruction of the seized alcoholic beverages.
The Chairman of Bade Local Government Area, Ibrahim Babagana Yurema, who led the operation, emphasized the administration’s commitment to curbing alcohol consumption in the community. He siad the detrimental impact of alcohol on youth, mental clarity, and societal values.

“The council is resolute in combating this immoral act to safeguard our community from its harmful consequences,” Yurema stated.
The Zonal Commandant of the Hisbah Board for Yobe North, Malam Isah Ibrahim, revealed that the operation was in line with a Sharia Court ruling. He reiterated the board’s dedication to upholding Islamic teachings and protecting the community from the adverse effects of alcohol consumption.
