The Yobe State Government has refuted allegations circulating on social media platforms regarding the disbursement of palliative funds to workers, firmly asserting that claims of misallocation are unfounded.
According to Alhassan Sule Mamudo, Chief Information Officer of the Office of the Head of Service, the government emphasized that reports suggesting an initial approval of N35,000 per worker were grossly inaccurate and misrepresented the facts. Mamudo clarified that no such amount was approved for disbursement as worker palliative.
The controversy erupted following a newspaper report dated January 22, 2024, which allegedly misquoted the approved amount, prompting swift action from the Yobe State Government to dispel any misinformation.
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Yobe State chapter, also joined in denouncing the report as false and misleading, highlighting discrepancies between the report and the actual contents of the memo.
The government, The Trumpet learnt to have earlier clarified that a committee comprising six members was tasked with negotiating the appropriate figure for worker palliative payments.

However, before negotiations commenced, reports surfaced indicating an erroneous approval of N35,000, leading to confusion.
Despite economic challenges faced by the state and competing demands on its resources, negotiations with labour unions were said to have resulted in an agreement to disburse N10,000 to every civil servant, a decision that has been implemented as agreed upon.
Emphasizing its commitment to transparency and accountability, the State government urged the public to disregard misinformation and rely on official channels for accurate information.
