The Yobe State Executive Council has given the green light to a transformative package of development initiatives worth over N45 billion, signaling a major push by the Governor Mai Mala Buni-led administration to accelerate infrastructure growth, improve healthcare, expand agricultural productivity, and boost economic empowerment across the state.

The high-stakes council meeting, presided over by Deputy Governor Idi Barde Gubana at the Government House in Damaturu, saw the ratification of several ambitious projects designed to impact both urban and rural communities statewide.

A major part of the budget focuses on strengthening government institutions, with N1.7 billion earmarked for the construction of new office complexes for five strategic agencies. These include the Bureau for Public Procurement, Fiscal Responsibility Board, Ease of Doing Business Secretariat, the Public-Private Partnership and Investment Promotion office, and the Yobe State Bureau of Statistics. In addition, the Yobe Investment Company received N962.6 million for the development of its new office headquarters.

Massive investments were also approved for modern market infrastructure aimed at revitalizing commercial activity in key areas. These include N2.78 billion for the construction of Machina Modern Market, N3.03 billion as variation cost for Geidam Modern Market, and N3.99 billion for the completion of Potiskum Modern Market.

In the transport sector, the state government has allocated N6.13 billion for the establishment of a Central Motor Park in Damaturu, while N248.7 million will go toward remodeling and upgrading the Yobe Line Terminus to meet modern standards.

Agriculture, a backbone of the state’s economy, received a significant boost as the Council approved N3.8 billion for the purchase of critical inputs to enhance dry season farming and ensure food security. A total of N480.2 million will provide 490 solar-powered water pumps for small-scale farmers, and an additional N1.38 billion will be used to acquire 1,412 more solar-powered pumps. Furthermore, N5.3 billion was approved for the procurement of NPK 20:10:10 fertilizer for the 2025 farming season.

The Council also sanctioned N396.9 million for the reconstruction of a collapsed water control gate in Alagarno Village, located in Bade Local Government Area, a critical intervention to prevent flooding and enhance irrigation.

On the road infrastructure front, several major construction projects were approved, including N1.25 billion for the 5km Daya-Fadawa Road, N4.38 billion for the 18.5km Mashio-Ngelzarma Road, N671.6 million for the 2.5km Nahuta-Ngojin Road, and a whopping N5.36 billion for the construction of the Damaturu-Gambir Road.

In healthcare, N1.43 billion was allocated for the construction and upgrade of health facilities and training institutions, while N1.23 billion was approved for the procurement of modern medical and laboratory equipment for secondary and tertiary hospitals across the state.

In a proactive move to combat high maternal mortality rates, the Council approved the full absorption of 110 midwives, 54 Community Health Extension Workers (CHEWs), and 258 Community-Based Health Workers. These professionals were initially recruited under the Maternal Mortality Reduction Innovation Initiative (MAMII), launched in November 2024, to serve in critical areas within Bade, Jakusko, Nangere, Yusufari, and Bursari Local Government Areas.

To empower youth and drive entrepreneurship, the Council also approved N442.2 million for the procurement of 100 modern barbershop equipment sets, alongside N233.7 million for 50 high-end hairdressing salon equipment packages, further supporting small business growth and self-employment among young people.

These sweeping approvals reflect the state government’s aggressive development agenda, with targeted investments designed to uplift living standards, reduce poverty, and enhance economic growth across Yobe State. The strategic focus on infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture, and youth empowerment positions the state as a model for progressive governance in northern Nigeria.
