Zamfara State Governor Bello Matawalle may now have a tough time winning reelection on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as two of his political arc-rivals have returned to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). They are a former governor of the state, Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari, and Senator Kabiru Marafa.
Yari and Marafa have been having running battles with the state governor over supremacy in Zamfara politics. While Yari’s effort to bounce back to reckoning in the state failed with his APC national chairmanship ambition, Marafa has tried effortlessly to take control of APC in the state after the defection of Gov. Matawalle and Senator Hassan Gusau from the PDP, a platform on which they won election, to the APC.
Zamfara State PDP Chairman, retired Colonel Bala Mande who announced the defection of the duo shortly after a stakeholders’ meeting in Gusau, the state capital, on Sunday said both had agreed to not only return but work for the PDP in the build- up to the 2023 election, The Trumpet gathered.
