Spanish football powerhouse Real Madrid has parted ways with their eight-month manager, Xabi Alonso, just hours after a 3-2 defeat to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The club announced this decision on Monday via their official account on X.
The statement indicated that both parties mutually agreed to part ways with Alonso as the first-team coach.
Real Madrid commended Alonso, calling him a club legend who embodied the team’s values, and expressed gratitude to him and his coaching staff for their contributions, wishing them success in the future.
Alonso had recently been appointed to succeed Carlo Ancelotti, who left to become the head coach of the Brazilian national team.
Real Madrid had previously stated that Alonso would take over starting June 1, 2025, and serve in that capacity until June 30, 2028.
The 43-year-old coach joined Madrid after leaving Bayer Leverkusen, where he had a successful season, finishing second in the Bundesliga and leading the team to a historic league and German Cup double in the 2023-2024 season.

During his playing career, Alonso made 236 appearances for Real Madrid from 2009 to 2014, winning six trophies with the club.
The decision to part ways with Alonso follows a challenging season under Ancelotti, despite the team winning the European Super Cup and the Intercontinental Cup.
The club faced elimination from the Champions League by Arsenal and lost key domestic titles to Barcelona, who regained the La Liga title.
Although the addition of Kylian Mbappe brought scoring power, with the French star netting 31 league goals, achieving squad balance proved to be difficult.
