A 3 man delegation team from the World Bank has visited Delta State to assess the level of implementation of her Sustainable Urban and Rural Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene (SURWASH), programme in the state.
The SURWASH is a World Bank funded programme to ensure that benefiting states have access to potable Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH).
The Team, led by Dr. Victor Osei, Governance and Institution Consultant, World Bank, said they were in Delta State, as one of the seven participating States in line with its Mid -Term Review (MTR) to assess the progress of ongoing implementation.
“This mission is focused on ensuring that the SURWASH Programme is being implemented in line with the programme documents, and that the objective of access to potable water is achieved.
During the mission, the Team will hold high-level discussions with State government officials, State Project Implementation Unit (SPIU), Implementing Agencies and other key stakeholders.
“These meetings will focus on identifying areas of, challenges encountered, and strategies for addressing bottlenecks to accelerate programme implementation.

The States involved in this mission include Delta, Ekiti, Imo, Kaduna katsina, Gombe and Plateau all of which are key beneficiaries of the Programme aimed at enhancing and ensuring access to water for residents.
“We are committed to ensuring that this Programme delivers the intended outcomes and makes a tangible difference in the lives of Nigerians.
He further stated that the mission would give an opportunity to assess progress on the ground, engage directly with State actors, and work collaboratively to ensure that the objectives of the Programme is achieved.
During the mission visits, the World Bank team will also look at the financial and technical capacity of participating States to ensure that the funds allocated are being used effectively.
