The Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES), a World Bank-supported initiative, has concluded plans to undertake a comprehensive stakeholder engagement exercise across 12 states in Nigeria as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s livestock sector.

The initiative is aimed at developing a sustainable framework to improve livestock infrastructure, enhance productivity and promote efficient management of the value chain from production to processing and marketing.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ roundtable in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, the Executive Director of Global Peace Development, Mr. Ebruke O. Esike, described the engagement as critical to the project’s overall success.

Esike explained that the exercise would involve extensive data collection across participating states to produce a detailed Stakeholders’ Engagement Plan that will guide L-PRES’ interactions with communities, institutions and value-chain actors throughout the lifespan of the project.

“The stakeholders’ engagement will collect data from 12 states across Nigeria so that a comprehensive stakeholders’ engagement plan can be developed and published for use by L-PRES,” he said.

According to him, the plan will go beyond identifying relevant stakeholders to clearly outline engagement strategies, information disclosure procedures, consultation frameworks, grievance redress mechanisms and feedback reporting systems. He added that monitoring systems and measurable performance indicators would also be developed to track progress and ensure accountability.

Esike noted that the publication and wide dissemination of the engagement plan would promote transparency and inclusiveness in project implementation.

Participants at the roundtable, including representatives of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, the All Farmers Association of Nigeria, butchers, meat processors and other actors in the livestock value chain, expressed readiness to collaborate with L-PRES to achieve its objectives in Taraba State.

Earlier, the State Project Coordinator of L-PRES, Mr. Hananiah G. Albert, and the Taraba State Commissioner for Finance, Mrs. Sarah Enoch Adi, commended the initiative and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to ensuring its successful implementation.

The roundtable was organised by L-PRES in collaboration with Global Peace Development, the World Bank and the Taraba State Government.
