The National Project Coordinator of the World Bank-assisted Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES), Dr. Sanusi Abubakar, has praised the Taraba State government for its consistent support and timely payment of counterpart funds in the implementation of the project.

Dr. Abubakar made the commendation during a project inspection visit to the state. He noted that Taraba has demonstrated strong collaboration with the Federal Government and has remained diligent in meeting its financial obligations.

“The government of Taraba State has been cooperating closely with us. They have fully paid their counterpart funds and are offering the enabling environment necessary for the project to thrive,” Dr. Abubakar said.

He disclosed that Taraba is one of five states selected for the establishment of a Livestock Service Centre, a development he attributed to the state’s commitment and cooperation.

“We are finding the implementation of our projects very smooth here in Taraba due to the support and commitment of the state government,” he added.

Dr. Abubakar expressed satisfaction with progress made across key project sites in the state, which include a disease surveillance laboratory, a vaccine cold chain facility, an artificial insemination centre, and several livestock farms.

Also speaking during the inspection, Dr. Manievel E. Sene, the Task Team Leader for L-PRES, lauded Taraba State’s proactive approach to agricultural reform, describing it as a “model of innovation” in livestock development.

Dr. Sene encouraged women in the state to organize into cooperative clusters to better access and benefit from opportunities under the L-PRES initiative.

The Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project is a World Bank funded program aimed at boosting livestock productivity, strengthening climate resilience, and promoting inclusive agricultural growth across selected Nigerian states.

With its ongoing support and investment, Taraba, as observed by our correspondent, is positioning itself as a key player in transforming Nigeria’s livestock sector.
