On Wednesday, a prosecution witness, referred to as BBB, presented an official copy of the death certificate of the former Special Adviser on Political Affairs to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Ahmed Gulak, in the ongoing trial of Nnamdi Kanu .
Gulak was reportedly killed in 2012 by members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) after allegedly disobeying the sit-at-home order.
BBB, who is the second witness called by the prosecution in the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of IPOB, shared this document with Justice James Omotosho at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
This was during a session led by the government’s lawyer, Chief Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN).
During the hearing, Awomolo mentioned that while today was meant for cross-examining the witness, he had a question to ask.
Kanu’s lawyer, Chief Kanu Agabi, agreed to the request, allowing Awomolo to proceed.
Awomolo asked BBB about a previous statement he made regarding a radio broadcast by Kanu, where Kanu allegedly called for a sit-at-home protest that led to Gulak’s death.

The witness confirmed this was true, sharing that he had also been involved in some investigations related to the case.
Additionally, he presented a police document confirming Gulak’s death, dated July 18, 2021.
When this document was shown to Agabi, he did not object to it being included in the court records, and Justice Omotosho accepted it as evidence, labeling it as exhibit PWJ.
Awomolo then requested permission for BBB to read the contents of the death certificate aloud in court.
BBB read from the certificate, explaining it was from the police in Owerri, Imo State, regarding Gulak, who was claimed to have been shot and killed by individuals associated with IPOB in 2021.
