Nigerian actor and philanthropist, Williams Uchemba, has stirred debate after calling for the public execution of convicted kidnappers across the country. In a viral video posted on social media, the actor argued that visible punishment for such grave crimes is necessary to restore order and deter others from similar acts.
Uchemba likened the issue to poor discipline in parenting, saying that when wrongdoing is ignored, it grows unchecked. “When a child starts stealing from the family pot and is not corrected, it sets the stage for bigger crimes in the future,” he said. He warned that a society that overlooks wrongdoing will eventually breed more dangerous individuals.
Questioning the justice system, Uchemba noted that while Nigeria’s constitution prescribes the death penalty for kidnapping, the public rarely hears about convictions or executions. “Once these criminals are arrested, the story ends. We don’t get updates on what happens next,” he lamented.

The actor further urged the government to emulate countries like China, where severe penalties for crimes such as kidnapping and corruption have helped maintain order. “Until we start enforcing real consequences, crime will continue to thrive,” he concluded.
