A wildlife conservationist, Dr. Inayom Imong on his social media handle confirmed the sighting of a gorilla and some elephants in a community in Cross River State.
Dr. Imong revealed that he captured the emergence of the wildlife on camera in a mountainous community straddling the border between Nigeria and Cameroon.
He stated that few months ago, some elephants were sighted in Boki Local Government Area, where they reportedly ravaged farmlands in some communities.
The wildlife conservationist explained that the gorillas in Cross River State are very rare and are seldom seen.

However, he said that evidence of their existence comes mainly from the nests which they construct each night to sleep in, and from camera traps.
He said that the specie of gorillas in the state is the most endangered of four gorilla sub-species and is classified as critically endangered.
Dr. Imong, added that no fewer than 300 gorillas survive across the landscape and are only in a small area in the mountainous headwaters of the Cross River.
He noted that the animal is threatened by habitat loss and forest fragmentation, as well as occasional hunting.
