The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has urged FCT athletes and coaches to aim for gold as they prepare for the 2025 National Sports Festival, scheduled to take place from May 16 to May 30 in Ogun State. Wike made this call during the reception of the Torch of Unity, a symbol of national cohesion and sportsmanship, which was presented to him by FCT athletes and officials of the National Sports Commission after its inauguration by President Bola Tinubu.
Represented by his Chief of Staff, Chidi Amadi, Wike reaffirmed the FCT administration’s commitment to youth empowerment and sports development, urging athletes to train rigorously and bring home medals. He expressed confidence in their abilities and assured them that outstanding performances would be duly recognized.
The minister also encouraged coaches to equip athletes with the necessary skills and strategies, emphasizing the need for discipline, determination, and hard work. He highlighted the National Sports Festival as a crucial platform for fostering unity, discovering talents, and promoting national development, while commending the collective efforts of stakeholders working to ensure the festival’s success.

Special recognition was given to Mr. Abdullahi Ango, Mandate Secretary of the FCT Youth Development Secretariat, and officials of the National Sports Commission for their dedication to organizing a smooth and hitch-free event.
Meanwhile, the Director of Sports, FCTA, Luka Istifanus, assured the minister that the FCT team is undergoing intensive preparation to ensure a strong performance at the festival. He also encouraged athletes to give their best and make the FCT proud.
The Torch of Unity, a traditional symbol of strength, unity, and sportsmanship, will now continue its nationwide journey across all 36 states, building momentum ahead of the prestigious national sporting event.
