Former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, along with several other high-ranking members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), are set to face the party’s disciplinary panel for alleged anti-party activities. The panel, led by elder statesman Chief Tom Ikimi, has been convened by the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) to address these serious accusations.
The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Ibrahim Abdullahi, confirmed the move during a Monday appearance on Channels Television’s “Sunrise Daily.” Abdullahi disclosed that Wike, among others, has been formally summoned to appear before the disciplinary committee. This comes as part of a broader effort by the party to address grievances and restore unity ahead of upcoming political challenges.
“Three weeks ago, we established two critical committees—one for reconciliation and the other for disciplinary actions. Nyesom Wike is one of those who will be facing the disciplinary committee, which is chaired by Chief Tom Ikimi,” Abdullahi explained. He added that the committee will be scrutinizing a series of petitions submitted by party members, accusing Wike and others of sabotaging the party during crucial moments, including the primaries.
Wike has been at the center of controversy within the PDP, especially after his recent remarks during a factional PDP Congress in Port Harcourt. The former governor threatened to “set fire” to the states of any PDP governor who interfered with the party’s affairs in Rivers State. This statement, along with his public gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his ministerial appointment, has further fueled tensions within the party.

Abdullahi criticized Wike’s inflammatory rhetoric, stating, “Wike should be able to manage his words carefully; that was a very disappointing remark. We weren’t expecting him to say that, and to be honest with you, we are not with him on that.”
The disciplinary proceedings could have significant implications for Wike and other party members like Senator Dino Melaye, who has also been summoned. The PDP’s leadership is under pressure to enforce party discipline and prevent further divisions as they gear up for future electoral battles.
Wike’s controversial alignment with the Tinubu administration has sparked debates within the PDP, with many members questioning his loyalty to the party. His bold stance, coupled with his threats against fellow PDP governors, has escalated the need for the party to address internal conflicts decisively.
As Wike and other PDP chieftains prepare to face the disciplinary panel, the party’s future cohesion hangs in the balance. The outcome of these proceedings will likely set the tone for the PDP’s strategy moving forward, as they navigate internal strife and external political challenges. All eyes are now on the Chief Tom Ikimi-led committee, which has the daunting task of resolving these high-stakes disputes within Nigeria’s largest opposition party.
