Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has asked the contractor handling a road project in the Kwali Area Council to hire at least 100 locals.
Wike issued the order while kicking off the construction of the 15-kilometer road that will connect Pai in Kwali Area Council to the Abuja-Lokoja Expressway.
The project was awarded to Zeberced Group and is scheduled to be completed in six months.
In making the appeal, the minister said the hiring of locals living in the project area will assist them support their families and contribute to the economic growth of the local community.
Wike stated: “I would like to suggest that the company hire our people, provide them with contracts and give them jobs so that they can provide for their families.

“The whole essence of this job we are doing is also to create employment. I can tell you from what I’ve seen, you cannot have less than 100 direct people working with you and then the indirect people that will also benefit.
“So, please work with the community people, work with the youth, work with the traditional rulers so that we have a smooth sail of this project.”
Wike stated that once completed, the route would provide significant economic and social benefits to the local community, as well as enhanced security.
He guaranteed the people that the project will be done in six months.
The minister also asked the mandate secretary of the education secretariat to visit the technical school in the council area that is under construction to assess the progress of work done.
