Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has described the South South zonal congress of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held in Calabar, Cross River State as final.
Speaking at the zonal congress, Wike, said that PDP is facing mismanagement by the few, and so needs to be repositioned in accordance with the provision of the party’s constitution and laid down guidelines, and rules.
The aim of the congress according to the minister is to bring back the lost glory of the party, tasking the elected zonal executive committee members to rise up, and defend the party’s constitution.
He said that the challenges the zonal officers right now, how to rebuild the PDP, and shun betrayal which he described as the bane of the party.

Wike, reechoed that he joined the Tinubu administration, based on the permission of the national, state and zonal structure of the party, after writing them, asking for their permission.
He said that PDP agreed that the presidential candidate of the party should come from the South, but blamed the leaders of the party for neglecting the agreement.
In the zonal elections that followed, the former zonal Chairman, Chief Dan Orbih and George Turnah, were returned as zonal chairman and zonal secretary, respectively.
Other officers representing their different states in the zone, were also elected and given their certificates of return after they took the oath of office.
