A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with Nyesom Wike has elected a 39-member State Executive Council to oversee the party’s affairs in Kano State.
The exercise, conducted over the weekend by national officers of the party, produced Dr. Bello Gambo as the new state chairman.
Chairman of the party’s National Electoral Committee, Aminu Abdullahi Taura, said the election followed the dissolution of the previous caretaker committee and was carried out in line with directives from the party’s leadership.
According to him, the process was based on a consensus arrangement approved by the party’s National Working Committee.

“We have the mandate of the National Working Committee of our great party to conduct the elections based on a consensus arrangement, and we have concluded the exercise peacefully and without rancour,” Taura said while presenting the new leadership.
The newly elected chairman, Dr. Gambo, promised to run an inclusive administration, pledging to adopt an open-door policy that would accommodate all members of the party across the state.
He emphasised that reconciliation and unity remain critical for the party as it prepares for the 2027 Nigerian general elections.
Meanwhile, the party’s National Youth Leader, Bello Ibrahim Aboki, disclosed that the faction loyal to Kabiru Tanimu Turaki had already agreed to collaborate with the new leadership.
He added that efforts were ongoing to bring other prominent blocs within the party including those associated with Ibrahim Shekarau and Aminu Wali into a broader reconciliation process in the state.
Aboki expressed confidence in the future of the party, insisting that the PDP remains a dominant political force in the country.
“The PDP will never die. It is a party Nigerians are deeply in love with, and it has never changed its name or logo,” he said.
