Former President Goodluck Jonathan has said that the Hilltop residence of retired General Ibrahim Babangida, Nigeria’s former military president, has become a ‘Mecca’ for many Nigerians, attributing this phenomenon to Babangida’s exemplary leadership qualities.
During a visit to Babangida on the occasion of his 84th birthday in Minna, Jonathan highlighted the significance of the former military leader’s contributions to the nation.
He remarked that Babangida’s approach to governance and his persistent advocacy for national unity have consistently drawn people to his home, a testament to his enduring influence and character.

“Nigeria has witnessed various leaders since gaining independence, yet General Babangida distinctly emerges as a figure who genuinely desires the best for his country,” Jonathan noted. “The continuous flow of visitors to his residence underscores the respect and admiration he commands across different sectors of society.”
Jonathan emphasized that Babangida viewed leadership through a lens of inclusivity, never restricting himself to a particular region or group. Instead, he has always embraced the concept of a unified Nigeria, advocating for collective progress and harmony among its diverse populations.
The former president concluded by asserting that Babangida’s legacy of promoting national unity would ensure that he remains a revered figure in Nigerian history. “We pray for God to bless him with a long life, allowing him to continue his vital role in mentoring future leaders and guiding them to emulate his commendable principles,” he stated warmly.
