Rivers State politics witnessed a fresh jolt on Friday as Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara secured a powerful second-term endorsement from women across the state, a move already reshaping alignments ahead of the next election cycle. The endorsement, delivered under the platform of Rivers Women Unite for SIM, has added new momentum to Fubara’s growing political base while tightening the bond between the Rivers Government and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The women’s group did not stop at backing the governor alone. In a clear show of political direction, they also declared full support for President Tinubu, framing the joint endorsement as a calculated step toward unity, political stability, and long-term development in Rivers State and Nigeria. Observers say the declaration sends a strong signal about where grassroots loyalty is tilting as 2027 draws closer.
The endorsement was unveiled at a lively gathering in Port Harcourt on Friday, December 19, 2025. Women from different local government areas, communities, and professional backgrounds filled the venue, turning the event into both a political statement and a show of collective strength. Speaker after speaker called on Rivers residents to rally behind Governor Fubara and President Tinubu, arguing that continuity in leadership was essential to sustain ongoing reforms and economic progress.
Convener of Rivers Women Unite for SIM, Amaopurubo Sotonye Toby Fulton, said the decision to back Fubara for a second term was rooted in trust and confidence in his leadership. She told the crowd that Rivers women had carefully assessed the political climate and resolved to stand firmly with a governor they believe understands the needs of the state and its people.
According to Fulton, the governor’s open support for President Tinubu made the women’s position even clearer. She declared that Rivers women would follow Fubara’s political path, insisting that their support for both leaders was complete and non-negotiable. Her remarks were met with sustained applause, reflecting the mood of unity that defined the gathering.

She described Rivers women as key stakeholders in governance, not spectators, stressing that mothers, daughters, wives, and sisters had a direct interest in political stability. Fulton added that the group was committed to supporting the All Progressives Congress and protecting the electoral mandates of both the President and the Governor, noting that women were increasingly determined to shape political outcomes in the state.
Beyond the politics, the event carried a festive air. Cultural dances, colourful attire, and Christmas songs filled the venue, blending celebration with political resolve. The gathering also served as the group’s year-end programme, offering a moment to reflect on its activities and to signal readiness for the political contests ahead.
With this endorsement, analysts say Governor Fubara has gained a significant boost from a bloc that often determines grassroots mobilisation. In Rivers State, the message from the women was unmistakable: the race for the future has begun, and they have chosen their side.
