Nigerians on X (formerly Twitter) have questioned the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, about the whereabouts of the former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, after the anti-graft boss warned youths against the allure of ill-gotten wealth.

Following Olukoyede’s comments at the EFCC’s Kaduna zonal directorate’s sensitization lecture for new students at the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), Mando, Kaduna State, social media users unexpectedly asked for an update on the case against Yahaya Bello and questioned the legitimacy of the EFCC.

It would be recalled that the EFCC had put on a spectacular display on April 17, 2024, when its agents broke into the home of the former Kogi State governor in Abuja, in an attempt to arrest him.

Failing to apprehend the ex-governor in the botched operation, the EFCC later declared Bello wanted in connection to an N80 billion fraud.

A user @NIrorere80559 said: “Where is the criminal politicians that got us here stealing the commonwealth of the people, leading these young minds to fraud… where is Yahaya Bello and the others? Parade them like common criminals, then we can say we are fighting corruption… rubbish”

Another user @royal93532 said: “Where is Yahaya Bello? Free our youth. Let the youth breathe.”

@therealkemzy said: “And suddenly, the fight against corruption has been directed at the youths. While the real destroyers of the Nigerian economy are been protected. Is he not also a youth, where is he?

@kingsleyfuny: “Imagine advice from a man who cannot do his work. Yahaya Bello came to your office for you to arrest him, yet you allowed him to go.”
