West African Health Organization calls for submission of abstract on Lassa Fever

The West African Health Organization has invited researchers, practitioners, and stakeholders to submit abstracts for presentation at the Lassa Fever International Conference 2025.

Submissions across all conference tracks should focus on Lassa Fever and emerging infectious diseases.

According to the public announcement, abstracts on Lassa Fever and other viral hemorrhagic fevers will be given priority.

The body said abstracts must be submitted through abstracts@lfic2025.org, with the deadline for submission set for May 24, 2025.

Accepted presentations can be in either oral or poster format.

Abstract Structure:
Abstracts must be structured as follows:

1. Title (maximum 25 words): The title should be informative yet concise, avoiding subtitles where possible. Use sentence case, capitalizing only proper nouns and scientific names (e.g., plasmodium falciparum). Do not use abbreviations or acronyms in the title.

2. Pillar and sub-theme: Indicate which conference pillar your submission addresses.

3. Introduction/background: Provide context, the significance of the study, and articulate its importance to public health. Include:
– A brief description of the topic and its relevance.
– Research questions or study hypotheses, if applicable.

4. Methods: Describe the study design, data sources, and analysis approach.

5. Results: Present key findings along with relevant data.

6. Conclusion: Summarize the key takeaways and recommendations.

Scope of submissions:

We welcome submissions of original research, implementation science studies, case studies, and programmatic experiences.

Language Options:
Abstracts may be submitted in any of the three official ECOWAS languages: English, French, or Portuguese.
Ensure that your abstract is clear, concise, and emphasizes the public health significance of your work.

Conference Topics:
Abstracts will be accepted for the following conference pillars and themes:

1. Pillar 1: Regional Coordination and Cross-Border Preparedness
Enhancing collaboration between countries to strengthen outbreak control and health systems for Lassa fever and other viral hemorrhagic fevers.

2. Pillar 2: Advancing Research and Medical Countermeasures for Lassa Fever and Other Viral Hemorrhagic Fevers
Accelerating innovation and equitable access to diagnostics, treatments, and vaccines.

3. Pillar 3: Surveillance, Early Detection, and Rapid Response
– Improving outbreak detection and control through data-driven interventions.

4. Pillar 4: Technological Innovations in Epidemic Control
– Utilizing digital tools and technological advancements to improve prevention, detection, and response.

5. Pillar 5: Community Engagement and Social Science Approaches
– Empowering communities to drive disease prevention, awareness, and response.

6. Pillar 6: Policy, governance, and sustainable financing for epidemic preparedness
integrating Lassa Fever preparedness into national policies and securing financial support.

Ensure that your submission clearly adheres to these guidelines and highlights the public health significance of your research.
