The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced that the Warri–Itakpe Train Service (WITS) will officially resume operations on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, following a temporary suspension to allow for major repairs, maintenance, and system safety checks.
In a press statement signed by Callistus Unyimadu, Chief Public Relations Officer of the NRC, the Corporation stated that the suspension was necessary to enhance the comfort, reliability, and safety of passengers across the Warri–Itakpe rail corridor.
According to the statement, online booking for the resumed train service will open by 12 noon on Monday, October 27, 2025, approximately 48 hours before operations restart. Passengers are encouraged to secure their tickets early through the official portal at https://nrc-fane.ng or at designated railway stations.

The NRC confirmed that train operations will begin with seven coaches, comprising six standard class coaches and one business class coach. It also noted that the train timetable, which will include temporary speed restrictions (TSR) to ensure safe and efficient operations, will be released on Monday.
The Corporation apologized to passengers and stakeholders for the inconveniences caused by the suspension and expressed appreciation for their patience and understanding.
Managing Director, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, reaffirmed NRC’s commitment to delivering safe, reliable, and efficient rail services, assuring that the resumed operations will maintain the high standards expected by the public.
The Warri–Itakpe Train Service, one of Nigeria’s most active intercity routes, plays a vital role in connecting the South-South and North-Central regions. Its resumption is expected to ease passenger movement and strengthen economic activities along the corridor.
