The War Against Drug Abuse campaign gained momentum in Delta State as the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Warri South Chapter, called on community leaders to partner with local pharmacies in the fight against rising cases of drug and substance abuse among young people.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Divisional Police Officer of ‘B’ Division in Warri, Comrade Destiny Tuoma Noritsegho, Chairman of NYCN Warri South, said his leadership has begun strategic engagements with traditional rulers, community heads, and pharmacists to curb the spread of illicit drugs at the grassroots. He stressed that pharmacies remain a critical gateway in the community and must be fully involved in sensitization and monitoring.

Noritsegho, who was accompanied by his executive members and representatives of voluntary organizations, said the council has mapped out awareness campaigns targeted at teenagers and youths who are most vulnerable to drug influence. He warned that unless urgent steps are taken, the menace could destroy the future of many promising young Nigerians.

Responding, the DPO of ‘B’ Division, CSP Josephine Ekebuike, commended the youth council for its initiative and urged them to extend their campaign to schools across Warri South. She emphasized the importance of educating students early on the dangers of drug abuse, noting that many lives have been ruined due to addiction and criminal influence.

CSP Ekebuike also advised young people to embrace hard work and uphold the dignity of labour instead of seeking shortcuts through drugs and crime. She praised the NYCN Warri South leadership for taking proactive steps and urged them to remain role models in the community.

The Warri South chapter of NYCN has vowed to sustain its grassroots mobilization and intensify collaborations with security agencies, schools, and community leaders to break the cycle of drug abuse in the region.
