The Nigeria Customs Service women’s volleyball team delivered an electrifying performance in Abuja, edging closer to reclaiming the prestigious 2024 Comptroller General of Customs (CGC) Volleyball Premier League title. In a highly anticipated clash, Customs dominated the defending champions, CNS Spikers, with a resounding 3-0 victory (25-21, 25-20, 25-19) at the indoor sports hall of Moshood Abiola Stadium.

The win not only solidified Customs’ position as a top contender but also showcased their determination to reclaim the title they once held. Their disciplined gameplay and unyielding focus left CNS Spikers, who entered the match as favorites, unable to counter the relentless attacks and strategic defense from the former champions.

The match was a testament to Customs’ tactical precision and teamwork. From the opening set, Customs set the tone with aggressive play and unwavering composure, effectively nullifying CNS Spikers’ efforts to mount a comeback. Their resilience and coordination throughout the game demonstrated the extensive preparation and mental fortitude of the team.

Sports Secretary of the Nigeria Customs Service, Samuel Onikeku, lauded the players for their stellar performance, highlighting the importance of teamwork and preparation.
“This victory is a significant milestone on our journey to reclaim the title,” Onikeku remarked. “The players executed the game plan with precision, demonstrating excellent teamwork and determination. CNS Spikers were formidable opponents, but our focus and preparation made the difference.”

Onikeku also underscored the critical role of mental strength in achieving success.
“We placed a strong emphasis on mental preparation,” he explained. “The team remained composed even when CNS Spikers attempted to rally back. Staying focused and maintaining emotional control are key, and the players demonstrated that brilliantly today.”

Reflecting on the team’s journey so far, Onikeku expressed confidence in their ability to secure the title.
“This victory is just the beginning. The players and the technical crew have put in countless hours of hard work, and their discipline is paying off. We are fully prepared to face any challenges ahead, and our focus remains firmly on the ultimate goal: winning the championship.”

With this decisive win, the Nigeria Customs Service women’s volleyball team has sent a clear message to the competition. As the tournament progresses, all eyes will be on them as they aim to recapture the crown and etch their name in the league’s history once again.
