Nigerian internet sensation Alax Evalsam, the fish pie hawker whose chant “Nawa o, some people dem too do oh” went viral across social media, has opened up about a disturbing experience he said he endured before his sudden rise to fame.
Speaking in an interview on the Clarity Zone Podcast, Evalsam recounted how he was allegedly assaulted by individuals who approached him under the guise of offering assistance.
According to him, the encounter turned violent after he was beaten and restrained.
“They tied me from head to toe. One of them went to buy pepper, soaked it, and when he came back they poured it on me,” he said during the interview.
Evalsam described the incident as traumatic, alleging that the attackers lifted him while he was still bound and poured the pepper mixture over his body, causing severe pain.
He further claimed that after the alleged assault, he was taken to Eko Hotels & Suites, where he was asked to pose for a photograph in what appeared to be a staged situation.

“They spoke with the management and told me to act like I was signing something,” he said, suggesting the moment was intended to create the impression that he had secured a deal.
The circumstances surrounding the alleged incident remain unclear, and those responsible for the reported assault have not been identified.
Evalsam later rose to prominence after a video of him hawking fish pies while singing his now-famous line spread widely across platforms such as TikTok, Instagram and X (Twitter).
The video resonated with many Nigerians who praised his resilience and unique style of marketing his products.
His story soon caught the attention of Nigerian content creator Nons Miraj, who reached out to support him.
She reportedly provided Evalsam with a fully furnished apartment, food items, clothing, ₦200,000 in cash and a promise of monthly financial support, while also paying two years’ rent for the apartment.
Following his viral fame, Evalsam also secured a partnership with Eko Hotels & Suites, where he now showcases his singing talent and serves as an ambassador for the hotel brand.
