The All Progressives Congress (APC) local government congress in Ethiope West descended into chaos on Saturday, following a violent clash that left several party members injured and heightened tensions within the party.
The exercise, initially scheduled to hold at Oghara Township Stadium, was reportedly moved to Ovade, a development that sparked controversy among party faithful.
Some party members alleged that the relocation was aimed at sidelining certain stakeholders, particularly long-standing APC members in the area.
Trouble reportedly began when the member representing Ethiope Federal Constituency, Rep. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, arrived at the new venue.
Rep. Ibori-Suenu, who is the daughter of former Delta State Governor, James Ibori, was said to have been denied access to the congress ground amid a heavy security presence and a gathering of agitated party supporters.
Eyewitness accounts alleged that suspected thugs armed with dangerous weapons attacked her supporters shortly after her arrival.
Several persons were reportedly injured in the ensuing melee, while security operatives swiftly moved to prevent further escalation.
Sources close to the lawmaker claimed there were threats to her life and alleged attempts to harm her, though these claims could not be independently verified as of press time.
Her security aides were said to have quickly escorted her away from the scene.

The incident comes at a time when party leaders had expressed optimism about reconciliation efforts within the Delta APC following recent high-level meetings in Asaba.
However, Saturday’s violence appears to have exposed lingering divisions within the party’s local structure.
In a statement, Rep. Ibori-Suenu appealed to her supporters to remain calm and avoid reprisals, urging security agencies to investigate the incident and ensure the safety of party members.
Meanwhile, injured individuals are reportedly receiving medical attention, while calls have intensified for law enforcement authorities to restore order and forestall further breakdown of peace within the party.
