Aston Villa midfielder Youri Tielemans will be sidelined for up to 10 weeks, exacerbating the team’s midfield injury problems.
The 28-year-old Belgian international sustained an ankle injury during Sunday’s 2-0 victory over Newcastle, and medical assessments indicate he won’t be back until April.
He is the latest significant midfielder to be injured for the team, which is currently in third place in the Premier League.
John McGinn has been out for two months, and Boubacar Kamara is ruled out for the entire season, both due to knee injuries.
To bolster their squad, Villa is close to securing a loan deal for their former midfielder Douglas Luiz from Juventus.
“Tielemans will be out for eight to ten weeks,” manager Unai Emery stated on Wednesday. “Kamara won’t play this season, and McGinn is expected to be out for six to eight weeks.”
Emery emphasized the need to manage the midfield in upcoming matches following these injury updates.
