Nigerian social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has been arrested by police in Abuja under controversial circumstances.
His arrest was shortly after he publicly criticized Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB), accusing them of conducting unauthorized transactions from his mother’s bank account, which had raised significant concerns among his followers and the online community.
VDM’s legal representative, Barrister Deji Adeyanju, took to his X account to confirm the arrest, stating, “JUST IN: VDM arrested by the police at GTB.
I had a conversation with them prior to his arrest. This is absolutely unacceptable. Demanding accountability is not a crime.”

His statement reflects the ongoing debate regarding the rights of citizens to question financial institutions about their practices without fear of police intervention.
Adeyanju said that a team of officers took VDM into custody at the GTB branch where he was at the time of the arrest.
Notably, his friend, known as C Park, was also apprehended alongside him; however, VDM’s mother, the individual at the center of the alleged financial misconduct, was not taken into custody. This incident has sparked widespread outrage on social media, with many defending VDM’s right to speak out against perceived injustices.
