It was a remarkable evening for Venus Williams, who not only triumphed in a WTA singles match, becoming the second-oldest player to achieve this feat, but also disclosed her engagement to Andrea Preti.
At 45 years old, Williams shared the news of her engagement to the “Temptation” actor during her post-match interview on Tuesday, shortly after her first singles match since March 2024.
She has now become the oldest woman to win a singles match since Martina Navratilova.
“My fiancé is here,” Williams stated following her win.
“He really motivated me to continue playing. There were many moments when I just wanted to take it easy and relax.

“Do you have any idea how challenging it is to play tennis? You all don’t realize the amount of effort that goes into this. It’s like a 9 to 5 job, except you’re constantly running.”
Williams mentioned that it was the first time Preti, 37, had seen her play live, and interviewer Rennae Stubbs referred to him as her “good luck charm.”
Preti, who is also a director and writer, expressed immense pride in his fiancée and celebrated by posting several photos of Williams in action on the court on his social media.
Williams and Preti were first linked in July 2024 when they enjoyed a boat ride together in Italy, but the couple has largely kept their relationship private.
Rumors about their engagement began circulating earlier this year when Williams was seen wearing a diamond ring on that finger.
