The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has reported that Tower T35, along the Eket–Ikot Abasi 132kV Transmission Line, has collapsed.
Following the tower’s collapse, a TCN inspection team visited the incident site in the Ete Community of Ikot Abasi Local Government Area, where they discovered several dismantled components of the tower on the ground.
A closer investigation revealed that additional parts had been removed from the fallen tower and taken away.
The team also found that Towers T7, T33, and T34 had been tampered with.

As a result of these actions, there is a temporary disruption of bulk power supply through the Eket and Ekim 132/33kV transmission substations, as well as the Ibom Power Station.
Consequently, the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company is unable to draw power from these substations for distribution to its customers in Eket and Ekim towns.
In response to this situation, TCN has begun mobilizing resources to reconstruct the collapsed tower and restore the transmission line as soon as possible.
TCN stated that “we want to emphasize that vandalism poses a significant threat to the stability of the nation’s transmission system.
“We urge host communities to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities around transmission installations to security operatives or the nearest TCN office.
“The fight against vandalism of power infrastructure is a collective responsibility.
“We call on all stakeholders to collaborate in protecting these critical national assets from further attacks.”
