Drones and rockets have been launched at the US embassy in Iraq’s capital, Baghdad, in the second such attack of the war.

Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates has reopened its airspace after missile and drone threats from Iran forced it to close briefly.

Also, United States President Donald Trump continues to call on other nations, particularly NATO allies, to help secure the Strait of Hormuz, a key oil shipping route.

But German Chancellor Friedrich Merz says this war “is not a matter for NATO”, while the alliance says “allies have already stepped up to provide additional security in the Mediterranean.”

In the third week of this war, Trump faces decisions that could define the rest of his presidency.

Elsewhere, leaders of the UK, Canada, France, Germany, and Italy issue a joint statement, saying a significant Israeli ground offensive in Lebanon would have “devastating humanitarian consequences.”

The IDF also says its air force has killed the commander of Iran’s Basij unit, a paramilitary group involved in the brutal crackdown on anti-government protests earlier this year.

In a Telegram post, it says it targeted Gholamreza Soleimani on Monday. The IDF says he was at the helm of the Revolutionary Guards-linked militia for six years.

There has been no word in the Iranian media as yet.

An Israeli military official has confirmed that the IDF targeted the secretary of Iran’s National Security Council Ali Larijani.

It’s unclear if he was killed or injured.

At least two Iranian media outlets say top security official Ali Larijani will be publishing a message shortly.

An Israeli military official has just confirmed to the BBC that Larijani was targeted by the IDF.

The posts from the Tasnim and Mehr news agencies say the message will be “published in a few minutes.”
