Sixteen people have been confirmed dead and 52 others injured, in an auto accident involving a trailer loaded with goods and passengers, which occurred along the Kano-Maiduguri Road, under the Muhammadu Buhari inter-change flyover at Hotoro in Kano state.
Spokesperson of the Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Abdullahi Labaran, who confirmed the incident, said the auto accident occurred on February 13, 2025, at approximately 9.50pm, and involved 71 people.
He blamed the cause of the accident on over- speeding, which resulted in the driver of the DAF trailer losing control of the vehicle under the bridge.
“Upon receiving the distress call, the FRSC Kano rescue team, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, promptly responded to the scene to carry out a rescue operation and restore normal traffic flow.

“The injured victims were immediately evacuated to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, for urgent medical attention,” he noted.
Meanwhile, Labaran quoted the FRSC Sector Commander, C. Matazu, as condoling with the family of the deceased and praying for the quick recovery of the injured.
Matazu advised truck drivers against overloading their vehicles with goods, animals, and passengers, emphasizing that such dangerous practices significantly increase the risk of fatal crashes.
