The Sokoto State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (SOCHEMA) on Monday marked a historic moment with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Organized Labour Union and SOCHEMA.
The agreement, inked on Christmas Day, paves the way for the full implementation of the formal sector program in the State.
Under the MoU, all civil servants in the state, along with their five dependents, will be enrolled in the scheme, ensuring access to healthcare services without the burden of financial constraints.
Hajiya Asabe Balarabe, who is the state Commissioner of Health, commended the foresight of the Organized Labour in championing the cause of financial protection for civil servants and their families in terms of health.
She emphasized that this initiative aligns with the nine-point agenda of His Excellency Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, where healthcare stands as a top priority.

The Commissioner assured the state’s commitment to providing support to ensure all residents have access to quality healthcare services.
Mal. Yusuf Abu Abdulkarim, the Director General of SOCHEMA, reassured civil servants that the agency is fully prepared to fulfil its duties as outlined in the MoU.
He reiterated the commitment to transparency and accountability in the implementation of the scheme, assuring the Organized Labour Union of their inclusion in the process.
Expressing optimism, the Chairmen of the NLC and TUC highlighted the thorough discussions held with SOCHEMA before the MoU signing.
They pledged that Organized Labour will oversee SOCHEMA’s delivery of all services outlined in the Basic Minimum Package of Health Care Services (BMPHS) to civil servants.
