Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, announced the appointment of Mr. Benson Ojeikere, an Edo State indigene, as the new Head of Service for the Abia State Civil Service. This historic appointment highlights how meritocracy and inclusivity can strengthen the nation’s unity.
Mr. Ojeikere’s inspiring journey began when he completed his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Abia State, where he distinguished himself as the best Youth Corps member of his time. His exceptional performance earned him automatic employment with the state government. Over the years, he rose steadily through the civil service ranks, excelling in various capacities and emerging among the top candidates in the Permanent Secretary examination category.
Governor Otti expressed his administration’s commitment to fostering a governance system where merit and excellence transcend ethnic and regional lines. “Our goal is to build a civil service rooted in meritocracy—a system where the best and brightest, regardless of their ethnic backgrounds, are empowered to lead,” the governor stated.

Governor Otti’s decision serves as a reminder that embracing diversity and promoting inclusivity are vital for the nation’s progress.
Abia State continues to set an example as a land of opportunities, attracting and nurturing talent from across Nigeria. The story of Mr. Ojeikere’s rise to the top stands as a testament to the values of hard work, dedication, and unity that Nigeria can build upon.
