Academic activities at the University of Jos (UNIJOS) have been disrupted as lecturers commenced an indefinite strike following the non-payment of their March 2026 salaries.
The action, which took effect on Wednesday, April 8, was confirmed by the Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Jos branch, Prof. Jurbe Molwus.
“We are on strike, and we are not going to work until we are paid,” Molwus stated, signalling the union’s firm stance on the issue.
In a directive circulated among members, the union ordered a total withdrawal of academic services, including lectures, examinations, and statutory meetings, citing prolonged delays despite what it described as “due patience.”
The statement, signed by the branch leadership, blamed the office of the accountant-general of the federation for the situation, noting that the university’s bursary department had already completed its part of the salary processing.

“After following due process, we hereby request all members to abstain from lectures, conduct of examinations and statutory meetings as our salary for the month of March 2026 is yet to be paid,” the statement read.
The union described the delay as a deliberate attempt to undermine industrial harmony within the institution.
“It seems our patience is being taken for granted by those who are determined to frustrate industrial harmony,” it added.
ASUU further warned that compliance would be strictly enforced, revealing that a monitoring team had been activated to ensure no lecturer defaults on the directive.
