Deputy Speaker, Federal House of Representative, Rt.Hon. Benjamin Kalu has called on Nigerian Universities to design academic programmes that prepare students not only for jobs but for leadership in industries.
Speaking as a guest lecturer at the 50th anniversary and 37th convocation of the University of Calabar, Hon.Kalu, an alumnus of the institution, said this will help to define the future of Nigeria.
He said that the management of Universities should forge alliances between Universities and industries so that every research paper is a potential blueprint for national developments.
Every Nigerian graduate, will then be an innovator equipped to solve real world challenges, the 1998 law graduate of Unical further stated.
He added that the Universities must equally be equipped with high speed broadband modern curricula to reflect emerging global demands.

They should also ensure that every student regardless of background, has access to the tools that will define the next century explaining that beyond technology, they should cultivate a culture of ethical leadership and civic responsibility.
Speaking on the theme” The Oath of 2017 : A Future We Must Build,” the guest lecturer said that the Nigeria of 2027 cannot be one where innovation outpaces integrity.
He was thereafter inducted into the prestigious Unical Hall of Fame alongside the president of the Senate, Goodwill Akpabio and former Humanitarian Affairs Minister, Dr Better Edu among others.
