Production of dialyzers used in treating renal disorders is to commence at the David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital Uburu in the next few months.
Governor David Umahi announced this while playing host to students and staff of the University who paid him a new year homage at his Uburu Country Home on Friday.
The Governor restated his commitment to the upward improvement of the standard of teaching and learning in the institution.
“Factory for the production of dialyzers is ready for installation in the next month.
“Being a Federal University means that I will be better positioned to help you after May 29th.”
He emphasized that his vision for the institution is to show to the world that a better Nigeria is possible through good governance.
“We want to prove to the world that something good can come from Nigeria and it is possible with you.”
Umahi called on the Students to take their studies seriously in order to justify their parent’s huge investment in their academics.
“We have a lot of expectations of the University and seeing you especially the first year students, we have great hope, our intention is that no student stays outside the University.
“Your parents have very high expectations in terms of your academics, in terms of your conduct.”
He encouraged them to avoid cult activities and other related social vices in order not to truncate their future.

“There shall be no secret meetings, no cultism, no such vices, they are not only dangerous to the families but also to the Society.
“You have to know that environment is a factor in what you want to be in life.
“There a lot of sacrifices if you want to be at the topmost level in your academics.
“We have introduced a course in Medical Administration. I don’t believe there is any other University that is doing medical Administration and so you are privileged because you are future CMDs.
“To be in the Medical University requires a lot of commitment, do not worry so much about social activities, you have a lot of time in the world for that but now is the time for sacrifice.
“When at this tiny age you make sacrifices, you can change our world, you can change your destinies. The Hospital that is attached to your University is the best you can find anywhere in Africa.”
Governor Umahi however pledged a million naira reward for a student with the highest Cumulative Grade Point Average at the end of every session as a way of encouraging hard work among the students. In addition, the student’s name will be placed at strategic places within the school.
The Governor later splashed sundry largesse including cows, wrappers, rice, yam and money on the Students.
