During a visit to the construction site and nearby bridges in Lagos State on Monday, Umahi assured the public that the project includes an extensive drainage system designed to handle water runoff.
He mentioned that “there are 750 kilometers of underground drainage being installed. That’s enough to stretch twice the length of this highway!”
Umahi expressed his frustration over the spread of misinformation, saying that “it’s troubling to see people take pleasure in spreading false information, as it can have serious consequences.”

The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is an important project that aims to connect Lagos to Calabar, passing through nine states along the coast.
The construction began in March 2024, and the first phase involves a 47.47-kilometer stretch in Lagos.
Once completed, the highway will feature multiple lanes, be built to withstand heavy rain and flooding, and include solar-powered streetlights.
Additionally, it will have a train system, modern toll gates, and surveillance cameras for added safety.
The project is designed to enhance travel connections, reduce travel times, and stimulate economic growth in the area.
