California Governor Gavin Newsom has taken legal action against President Trump over the deployment of the National Guard in Los Angeles.
Newsom has filed a lawsuit against Trump, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and the U.S. Department of Defense, claiming that their actions to send California National Guard members are “illegal.”
The National Guard was deployed to L.A. on Saturday in response to protests triggered by federal immigration raids, a move that Newsom argues is unconstitutional.
In the lawsuit, which was reported by TMZ, Newsom asserts that Trump lacked the authority to deploy the California National Guard, as the law requires such actions to be approved by the governor. He contends that Trump exploited a situation that local officials had managed effectively to execute an “unprecedented power grab.”

Additionally, Newsom criticized Trump on Sunday, labeling him a “stone cold liar” who is inciting civil unrest over immigration issues.
The lawsuit seeks to prevent the federal government from deploying the National Guard in California without the governor’s consent and requests a court ruling that Trump’s order to call in the National Guard was unauthorized.
