In a formal letter dated June 27, 2025, copies of which were yesterday made available to media practitioners in Jalingo, the Traditional Council commended Owolabi for his sustained and commendable contributions to the peaceful coexistence of communities and his support for the socio-economic advancement and general development of Sanwi Chiefdom and the Yandang Nation.

The conferment ceremony has been tentatively scheduled for Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the Daa-Kpang Sanwi Palace in Sayonti-Mayolope, Lau Local Government Area of Taraba State, starting at 10:00 a.m.
Mr. Owolabi, as the recipient, will be responsible for arranging his regalia, the ceremony program, and entertainment for all guests. He has been requested to submit his citation and photographs by June 15, 2025, to facilitate preparations for the event.
The Traditional Council emphasized that the honorary title is subject to adherence to the customs and traditions of the Sanwi Chiefdom and could be withdrawn if the holder acts contrary to established norms.
The letter conveying the nomination concluded with congratulations and the highest regards from His Royal Highness, the Paramount King of the Yandang Nation.

Elated by the honour, Chief Owolabi Adenusi, who expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the Paramount Ruler of the Yandang Nation, Pastor Dr. Haniel Hinlewheni Banti, DAA Kpang Sanwi 1, described the monarch as, “a blessing to humanity, and your commitment to recognising those who serve with integrity and passion is deeply inspiring.”
Referencing a Yoruba proverb which said, “When a child knows how to wash his hands, he will dine with kings,” Chief Adenusi, who will be honour along side the Senator representing Taraba North, Saibu Lau, his wife, and other distinguished personalities from both Adamawa and Taraba States, he applauded the chiefdom for making him the first journalist ever recognised by the Yandang royal institution.
“The Yandang people have endured numerous attacks from bandits. Years ago, over 500 lives were lost in this peaceful farming community. I was there alongside my cameraman, Musa Muhammed, amplifying their cries and telling their stories to the world.
When bandits invaded the kingdom’s headquarters and exhumed the remains of the king’s father just a day after his burial, it was TVC News, through my report, that stood as the sole national media outlet to bring this atrocity to light.
Even during an assassination attempt on the royal father, where his residence was violently attacked, I stood with the people of Yandang.
Today, I stand proud not only as a journalist but as a Yoruba man of Ijebu-Remo descent, being honoured by a Northern monarch as a true testament to the unity that binds us as Nigerians“.
Stressing that, “this honour did not come by chance. It is the fruit of years of dedication, courage, and unwavering commitment to truth and humanity”.
