A prominent political supporter of President Donald Trump Marjorie Taylor Greene, has announced her resignation from Congress, marking an unexpected development for the well-known Republican figure.
As one of Trump’s most vocal supporters, the Georgia congresswoman’s persistent demands for the release of documents related to the late Jeffrey Epstein, along with her recent criticisms of some of Trump’s policies, sparked a public feud between them.
After Trump referred to her as a “traitor,” Greene stated in a video about her resignation: “I refuse to be a ‘battered wife’ hoping it all goes away and gets better.”
In an interview with reporters, Trump described her resignation as “great news for the country,” following his earlier threats to back a Republican challenger to replace her.
He later commented on Media, “For some reason, primarily that I refused to return her never-ending barrage of phone calls, Marjorie went BAD. Nevertheless, I will always appreciate Marjorie and thank her for her service to our country!”
In her video announcement shared on social media, Greene indicated that she would step down from Congress on January 5, 2026.
She expressed her desire to spare her district from a damaging primary battle against her, instigated by the president she had supported, which could jeopardize Republican chances in the midterms.
Greene had been one of the most vocal advocates for the release of Epstein-related documents, an issue that had previously united Trump and his supporters but had since become contentious.
Trump had contended that the matter was a distraction created by his political opponents to overshadow his administration’s successes.
“Standing up for American women who were raped at 14, trafficked, and exploited by wealthy, powerful men should not lead to me being labeled a traitor and threatened by the President of the United States, whom I fought for,” Greene stated in her resignation letter.

In recent months, she has appeared on several major news programs, expressing criticism towards Trump and other Republicans. She voiced concerns about the president’s failure to address rising living costs for constituents and criticized his tariff policies. Most notably, she condemned his administration for not releasing Epstein-related documents.
Last week, Trump responded to Greene’s criticisms on social media, labeling her a “traitor” and “wacky,” and indicated that he would support a challenger to her congressional seat.
Following their escalating feud and increasing calls from Republicans for the release of the documents, Trump changed his stance and announced his support for their publication. He signed a bill this week requiring the U.S. Justice Department to release the documents within 30 days.
Greene was elected to Congress in 2020 amid significant media attention due to her support for and promotion of QAnon conspiracy theories.
