U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that he will be present at the FIFA Club World Cup final this Sunday in New Jersey.
The announcement follows FIFA’s recent decision to open an office in Trump Tower, New York.
The United States is hosting the inaugural edition of the expanded Club World Cup and will also co-host next year’s World Cup alongside Canada and Mexico.
Chelsea will compete against either Paris Saint-Germain or Real Madrid in the final at MetLife Stadium, which is also set to host the World Cup final next year.
Trump, who attended the Super Bowl in February, leads a task force he created to manage preparations for both tournaments.
FIFA already has an office in Miami, and establishing a presence in Trump Tower is expected to enhance the organization’s relationship with the U.S. government.
“We have received tremendous support from the government and the president through the White House task force for the FIFA Club World Cup and the FIFA World Cup next year,” stated FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

“FIFA is a global organization, and to be global, you must also be local and present everywhere, which is why we need to be in New York.”
Infantino reassured fans that they will be welcomed in the U.S, despite Trump’s strict immigration policies and a travel ban affecting 12 countries.
However, Trump is reportedly contemplating extending travel restrictions to as many as 36 additional countries.
During his second term, Trump has become more involved in sports, making history as the first sitting president to attend a Super Bowl and announcing that Washington DC will host the 2027 NFL Draft.
He has also participated in several UFC events, including one last month in New Jersey, and mentioned that the White House will host a UFC event next year.
