A tragic road crash on Monday morning at Udu Bridge in Delta State claimed the lives of three people and left several others injured.
One of the victims was a mechanic, said to be working beneath a broken-down trailer carrying electric poles, when a Julius Berger truck crashed into it while trying to overtake a commercial tricycle.
The impact of the collision caused the trailer to flip over, crushing three tricycles filled with unsuspecting passengers.
“The scene was heartbreaking,” a bystander recounted. “There was shouting everywhere. People were trapped, and some didn’t make it.”
The mechanic, who had responded to a call to fix the trailer, was said to have died instantly.
Two other people also lost their lives in the aftermath of the trailer’s flipping over. Several more suffered injuries, some of them severe.

The incident triggered a long traffic lockdown, with motorists, commercial tricycle operators, and commuters stuck on the bridge for hours.
Many had to abandon their vehicles and find alternative routes on foot.
As rescue teams struggled to navigate the congestion, the delay in emergency response raised concerns among locals, who blamed poor traffic control and a lack of warning signs around the broken-down trailer.
Authorities have yet to release an official casualty figure as of the time of this report, but residents fear more victims may be discovered as clean-up efforts continue.
