Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, in collaboration with Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have repelled a planned terrorist attack in Taraba State, neutralizing two terrorists and recovering arms and other equipment.
The operation, carried out on Sunday, forms part of Operation Lafiya Nakowa, the ongoing statewide military offensive aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and eliminating criminal elements across Taraba.
In a statement released on Thursday by Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, troops launched the operation based on credible intelligence about a suspected convergence of armed bandits in Tor Ikyeghgba village.
“Upon arrival near the Powerline axis of the village, the troops made contact and engaged the terrorists in a firefight, resulting in the neutralization of two attackers,” the statement read.
Recovered items at the scene include one locally fabricated pistol, two Dane guns, three rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a Baofeng radio, a motorcycle, and other materials believed to have been used by the terrorists.
