Troops of the 6 Brigade, Sector 3 of ‘Operation Whirl Stroke’ have foiled a coordinated terror plot in Taraba State, arresting two suspected terrorists in separate intelligence-driven operations in Wukari Local Government Area on Tuesday, July 16.

A statement released by the acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Capt. Olubodunde Oni, said the operations followed credible intelligence reports pointing to imminent security threats in the area.

One of the suspects, 45-year-old Felix Myina from Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, was apprehended by troops stationed at the Forward Operating Base in Wukari.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Myina is a high-ranking member of a notorious kidnapping and banditry syndicate linked to a wanted criminal kingpin known as ‘Mcianan’, also known as ‘Yellow.’

The gang is believed to be behind a series of violent attacks along the Jootar–Wukari axis, targeting motorists and communities.

Troops recovered a Tecno mobile phone from the suspect at the time of his arrest.

In a separate incident the same day, troops intercepted another suspect identified as Abubakar Yusuf, 26, a native of Borno State and resident of Gassol Local Government Area.

Yusuf was said to have been arrested near the Aku-Uka Palace Junction in Wukari, while allegedly performing ritual activities suspected to be linked to an Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) plot.

The army said Yusuf was caught conducting rituals believed to be aimed at “spiritually tying” the town to facilitate future terrorist attacks.

Items recovered from him include a dead chicken, nine rotten unhatched eggs, an animal horn, a bottle containing a powdered substance, and pieces of fresh meat.

“Both suspects are currently in custody and are cooperating with investigators,” the army said.

Commander of the 6 Brigade/Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, praised the troops for their swift response and lauded local residents for their timely intelligence reports.

He urged continued public vigilance and collaboration with security forces.

“The brigade remains resolute in its mandate to protect lives and restore peace and stability across the region,” Uwa stated.
