Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have successfully foiled a kidnapping attempt and rescued six victims unhurt in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.
According to a statement released by the Acting Spokesperson of the Brigade, Captain Oni Olubodunde, the operation took place on April 27, 2025, following a distress call from the Executive Chairman of Wukari LGA, reporting a suspected attack on travelers along the Wukari-Kente road.
Responding swiftly, troops from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Wukari were deployed to the area, where they discovered an abandoned white Toyota Hilux with a flat tire.
While securing the scene, six individuals emerged from nearby bushes and identified themselves as the vehicle’s occupants.
The victims also recounted that they were on their way from Yola to Lafia when they were ambushed by suspected kidnappers or armed robbers, prompting them to flee into the forest for safety.

The troops subsequently secured the area, repaired the damaged vehicle, and ensured the travelers continued their journey without further incident.
Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, praised the troops for their swift and effective response. He reaffirmed the Brigade’s dedication to maintaining peace and safeguarding lives and property in Taraba State.
He also called on residents to support security efforts by providing timely and reliable information to aid the fight against crime and insecurity.
