Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation HADIN KAI, under the 21 Special Armoured Brigade, have foiled an attempted attack by Boko Haram terrorists around Kashimri in Bama Local government council of Borno State.
According to a statement issued by Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, the operation was carried out on October 17, 2025, after troops successfully identified and destroyed terrorist camps in the area.
The action, the military said, disrupted the insurgents’ plans to target civilians and destabilize socio-economic activities.
During the intense gun battle, several Boko Haram fighters were neutralized, while others sustained injuries. However, the Army also suffered losses, including the death of the Commanding Officer of the 202 Tank Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Saidu Paiko, alongside a number of soldiers who “paid the supreme price” in the line of duty.

“These brave heroes fought for the peace of our great nation, and their legacies shall endure forever,” the statement read. “The Nigerian Army will continue to honor their sacrifices as we remain resolute in our mission to stamp out terrorism from our country.”
Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, extended his condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers, describing them as fathers, brothers, and sons who displayed immeasurable courage.
He reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to pursuing terrorist elements relentlessly until lasting peace and normalcy are restored in the North-East and across the country.
The military also appealed to the public and media organizations to refrain from sharing or publishing images of fallen soldiers until their next of kin have been duly informed. This, it said, is to uphold the dignity of the deceased and respect the privacy of their families.
