Troops of the Operation Whirl Stroke in has killed no fewer than three terrorists popularly called bandits in a fierce gun battle at the Chito general area, Sankera council ward in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue.
Director, Defence Media Operations, Major General Benard Onyeuko disclosed this in a statement obtained by The Trumpet on Tuesday, saying the terrorists were eliminated following actionable intelligence received by the troops on the activities of the bandits.
Gen Onyeuko said the bandits on sighting the troops started firing but the troops responded with superior firepower, which led to the elimination of three. He further stated that 18 motorcycles were recovered by the troops while searching the hideout of the terrorists.
“Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke in a fierce battle eliminated terrorists. On 15 July 2022 based on credible intelligence, the troops conducted a raid operation at CHITO general area, SANKERA council ward in Ukum Local Government Area, Benue State, and in the process, came in contact with suspected bandits.
“Bandits on sighting the advancing troops, fired in the direction of the troops. Troops responded with heavy/superior firepower and neutralize 3 bandits while others escaped. Troops searched bandits hideout and recovered 18 motorcycles used by the bandits to terrorize the general area.”

In a related development in Palale-Jaja village in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State, troops made a contact with terrorists and neutralised two after a gun duel. Items recovered according to Gen Onyeuko include two AK 47 rifles, two Magazines, 16 rounds of 7.62mm special and six motorcycles among others.
“Troops of Operation HADARIN DAJI in a special operation in the early hours of 17 July 2022 conducted an operation at PALALE-JAJA village in JIBIA Local Government Area of Katsina State and made contact with terrorists. Troops engaged with them and neutralized 2 x terrorists.
“Items recovered include 2 x AK 47 Rifles, 2 x Magazines, 16x rounds of 7.62mm special, 6 x motorcycles, 2 x phones, 1 x clipper, and some packets of tramadol drug, among other items,” he added.
While commending the troops for the feat recorded, the Military High Command urged the general public to always avail troops with more credible and timely information on criminal activities in their areas.
