Troops from the 159 Battalion, in partnership with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, have detained a suspected informant connected to terrorist activities in the North-East region, specifically in Kanamma, Yobe State.
The individual, named Malam Fantami and originally from Dikwa, was taken into custody during a security operation conducted by troops in the area.
He was apprehended based on reliable intelligence suggesting he may have been acting as an informant for ISWAP-affiliated terrorists.
At the time of his arrest, authorities recovered several items from him, including a mobile phone, a smartwatch, prayer beads, a motorcycle key, and cash amounting to N7,000.
An initial examination of the suspect’s mobile phone by security forces reportedly uncovered various suspicious materials, such as images of motorcycles, large sums of money, AK-47 rifles, and other items believed to be associated with terrorist activities.
The findings have raised significant concerns regarding the suspect’s potential role as a logistics informant or intelligence asset for insurgent groups operating in the area.
